The Screwtape Letters, by C. S. Lewis
Best known in this generation for his Narnia series, C. S. Lewis was an
imaginative and creative teacher of the faith. A contemporary and
colleague of J. R. R. Tolkien (The Lord of The Rings), Lewis dedicated this
volume to him.
In this humorous Christian classic Lewis imagines a series of letters from
Screwtape, an “undersecretary of the department of temptation”, to Wormwood,
his nephew, and a “Junior Tempter” just learning the craft of leading people
away from God and virtue. Although the book was written during the second
World War, the insights into human nature still hold true. A fun and thought
provoking read.

The Power of Half : One Family’s Decision to Stop Taking
and Start Giving Back, by Kevin and Hannah Salwen
What happens when the audacious impulse to make a big difference in the world
doesn’t get suppressed or ignored? This book tells the story of an
unconventional family that rose to the challenge laid down by their fourteen
year old daughter, Hannah: She didn’t want to be a family that just talked
about doing good, she said. She wanted to be a family that actually did
something. Something BIG.
Journey with the Salwen family through a remarkable transformation as they
explore their values, examine their options, and choose a new way of living with
each other and the world.

Father, make us masters
of ourselves
So that we might become the servants of others
Take our minds and think through them
Take our lips and speak through them
And our hearts and set them on fire.
